Richard Douglas Buntain, son of Finley Cline Monroe Buntain and Marcia Darlene Scadden Buntain was born July 16, 1951 in Key West, Florida. He passed from this life on August 26, 2008 at the Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center in Osceola, Iowa at the age of 57 years.
Richard grew up in Osceola and Van Wert where he attended grade school. He moved with his family to Mississippi in 1964; he graduated from Moss Point High School in Mississippi in 1969. He attended community college before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
Richard lived most of his life in the Biloxi, Mississippi area until Katrina. He rode out the hurricane on the roof of his house. He moved to Osceola in 2005 and was currently working for Lakeside Casino in the maintenance department and really enjoyed his job.
When he was a young boy, Richard remembered going with his grandfather to help mow the Van Wert Cemetery. He was a ham radio operator when he lived in Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Herb & Orpha Scadden and Cline and Esther Roberts.
He leaves to cherish his memory, mother, Darlene Buntain; sister Lynnette Atkinson and Gerald Clark of Osceola; sister, Pam Hodges and husband Dick of Gautier, Mississippi; sister, Cheryl Williams and husband Herb of Allerton, Iowa; niece, Annette Richardson and family of Osceola; many nieces and nephews living in Mississippi and other relatives living in Iowa.

Peggy Lou Penick, daughter of James Albert and Jean Marie (Baker) Penick was born July 10, 1948 in Osceola. She passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola at 60 years of age.
Peggy grew up in Osceola and graduated from Clarke Community High School. She attended Southwestern Community College in Creston.
Peggy had been working for Terrible's Casino in Osceola for the past 4 years. She worked for Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center for 13 years prior. She worked at A & W restaurant in Osceola for many years before it closed.
She enjoyed reading, going shopping, going to movies and visiting with people. She loved her grandchildren and any time she had them with her. She was always there helping them and their friends, and everyone called her Grandma. She was always helping others and looking out for everyone.
Those relatives who preceded Peggy in death were her grandparents, Florence and Harold Houston, Malcolm and Thelma Baker, Nathan and Mary Ann Penick.
She leaves to cherish her memory; son, Nicklas Penick and friend Tiffany of Osceola; daughter, Kelli Penick of Osceola; parents, James A. and Jean Penick of Lucas; brother, Jim Penick and wife Connie of Osceola, brother, Kenneth Penick and wife Marilyn of Murray, brother, Rick Penick and wife Kristy of Ellston, IA, grandchildren, Samantha, Sierra, Austin and Audrie as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

William Donald Watkins, son of the late John Edwin Watkins and the late Carrie Mae Morris Watkins was born June 18, 1939 in Hampton, Iowa and passed from this life, August 24, 2008 at Clarke County Hospital at 69 years of age.
William received his education in the Truro Schools and received his Iowa DOT Certification from Iowa State University as a Flagger. He was united in marriage to Irma Lee Sharp September 30, 1960 at Winterset, Iowa and five children blessed this union.
"Bill"worked as a Sawman for many Road Construction companies over the years before retiring in 2003. Bill and Irma have lived in Osceola for the past twelve years and prior to that they resided in Winterset and Truro. His favorite activities were watching movies, spending time with his family; especially family picnics and walking his dog "King."
Those relatives who preceded "Bill"in death were his Parents; daughter: Roxanne Stephenson; brother in law, Carl Snead; mother in law, Gladys Weaklend; and uncle, Maurice Watkins.

Lucille Stiles Paynter, daughter of Glenn W. Stiles and Bessie Bright Stiles was born January 14, 1914 in Decatur County, Iowa and passed from this life August 22, 2008 at Westview Acres Care Center at 94 years of age.
Lucille graduated from Leon High School. She was united in marriage to Henry Don Paynter on October 31, 1960 at Virginia City, NV. She lived most of her life in California and Missouri until moving to Clarke Community Housing in Osceola, Iowa in 1997 to be closer to relatives. She was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church.
Those relatives who preceded Lucille in death were her parents; sister, Margery Throckmorton; brother, Paul Stiles; and husband, Henry "Don" Paynter.
She leaves to cherish her memory; sisters, Louella Jones and husband Harold of New Virginia, IA, and Mary Stewart of Kahoka, MO and many nieces and nephews.

Harold Eugene McNeal, son of John Curtis McNeal and Gertrude Watkins McNeal was born December 14, 1927 and passed from this life August 21, 2008 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola at 80 years of age.
Harold graduated from Murray High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. On April 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mamie Lou Jackson and 3 daughters blessed this union. They have lived in Osceola for the past 59 years.
Harold had many interests and occupations. He was Deputy Clerk of Court, County Recorder, produce manager at HyVee and co-owner of V& H Clothing in Leon. He served on the Osceola City council. He enjoyed archery and help start the local archery range; he also liked to fish, hunt, and camp. He was a poet and storyteller and loved country music. After Harold suffered a stroke, he worked hard to regain his speech and started writing poetry; his mind was always very sharp, and he had a very inventive mind. He moved to the Afton Care Center in 2004.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roland McNeal, Myron McNeal, George McNeal; sisters, Marilyn McNeal, Dorothy Dinham; and son-in-law, Dwight Selsor.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mamie McNeal of Osceola; daughters, Bonnie Stephenson (Craig) of New Virginia, Barb VerSteegt (Larry) of Osceola, Bev Foote (Dennis) of Osceola; sister, Annie Guthrie of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Donald McNeal of Cedar Rapids, Robert McNeal (Viola) of Centerville, John Jr. McNeal (Glenda) of Murray; sister-in-law, Bessie Lamb of Osceola; 4 granddaughters; 5 grandsons; a step grandson; a step granddaughter; 14 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerry Dean Austin, son of Robert Austin and Martha Wilson Austin was born January 30, 1928 in Winterset, Iowa. He passed from this life August 20, 2008 at his home in St. Charles, Iowa at 80 years of age.
Jerry grew up in southern Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Fireman 1st Class. On March 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Hope Rockey in Peru, Iowa. They moved to St. Charles in 1957.
Jerry worked as an electrician at Western Tool and then Des Moines Register from which he retired in 1988. He was a member of VFW in St. Charles before it disbanded and a member of the St. Charles Parish. Jerry built several houses in St. Charles. He enjoyed going to farm sales, fishing, genealogy, enjoying grandchildren and doing crossword puzzles.
Those relatives who preceded Jerry in death were his parents; brothers, Robert, Leonard, Forrest, Ivan; and sisters, Betty Austin and Eunice Harper .
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carolyn Austin of St. Charles; children, Bruce Austin of Prole, Sandra Lundberg (Dean) of Iowa City, Bill Austin (Robyn) of St. Charles, Debra Richards (Marty) of

Helmut "Ham" Mueller was born September 7, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Paul Mueller and Gertrude Grund Mueller. He passed from this life on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at his home near Osceola, Iowa at the age of 81 years of age.
He attended St. Lukes Lutheran School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Lake View High School in Chicago in 1944. He enlisted in the Army and served his country during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Upon his discharge, he attended Northwest University and graduated from John Marshall Law School in 1951. He moved to Des Moines and was claim manager for the Royal Globe Insurance Company until 1968. He was Deputy Industrial Commissioner with the State of Iowa until 1986. He then practiced law from his home until his retirement.
Helmut married Ilse Schmidt on September 19, 1954 and three children were born to them, Linda, Kurt and Helga. The resided in Des Moines and Johnston before moving to their farm in Osceola where they have lived for 38 years.
Ham enjoyed the outdoors. He hunted and fished as a young man. He planted 30,000 evergreens north of Johnston. He enjoyed his cow herd and referred to them as his "girls". He was an avid reader, a history buff and a "political junkie". He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He mostly enjoyed his roll as "Opa" to his 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kurt.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Ilse of rural Osceola; daughters, Linda (Chuck) Graves of Osceola and Helga (Dave) Offenburger of Lucas; Grandchildren, Paul Graves and Jess Baldus of Osceola; Emmi (Nathan) Binning of Woodburn; Hannah and Nicholas McDaniel, Kaleb, Whitley and Madison Offenburger all of Lucas; Great
Grandchildren, Tyler and Cole Binning of Woodburn cousin, Louise Grund of Chicago, Il. as well as a host of other relatives, good friends and neighbors.

Dwight Lee Burgus, son of Jesse Thomas Burgus and Zella Marie Brown Burgus was born February 17, 1947 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life August 13, 2008 at his home in Osceola at 61 years of age.
Dwight received his education in the Murray community Schools graduating in 1965. He also attended Iowa State University and studied Electrical Engineering.
In 1968, Dwight moved to Mesa, Arizona and began his career in construction. While in Arizona, he met and was united in marriage to Ellen Schwingle. One son, Chad Jesse Burgus blessed this union.
Dwight returned to Clarke County fourteen years ago and continued his work in the construction business. Dwight was always known to be generous to others and enjoyed spending his time with family and friends.
Those relatives who preceded Dwight in death were his parents; son, Chad Jesse Burgus; sister, Judith Ann Burgus; sister in law, Martha Sue Burgus; uncles, Carl, Cecil, Ralph, and Donald Burgus; uncle, Cyrus Marvin Brown; aunts, Ruby Henderson, Mary Farr, Eva Dovenspike, Amy Ramsey, and Doris Forbes.

E. Maxine Woods, daughter of James Henry Baker and Annabelle (McLaughlin) Baker, was born August 19, 1916 in Woodburn, Iowa. She passed from this life August 10, 2008 at ninety one years of age.
Maxine graduated from Derby High School, Osceola Jr. College and Drake University. She was united in marriage to Charles Harlan "Chig" Woods in 1938, and three children blessed the union: Ron, Ann and Charles. Maxine taught in country schools before teaching at Clarke Community Jr. High where she retired in 1981. Over the years, Maxine taught eight of her eleven grandchildren.
A lifelong resident of Clarke County, Maxine enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, bowling and cooking (especially for church dinners). She enjoyed taking trips with Shirley Woods and also traveling with Teresa Kerr, Florence Paul and Margaret Mitchell. One of the things she looked forward to the most was camping at the Iowa State Fair each year.
She was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church and UMW; Clarke Area Retired School Personnel Assoc., Iowa State Education Assoc., National Education Assoc., Osceola Women's Club for 25 years, Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary, Red Hat Cinnamon Sticks, Ophir Chapter #267 O.E.S., Osceola Eagle, Delta Kappa Gamma, Faculty Bridge & several other bridge clubs, Book Lovers, Quilt Club, and she had served as a 4-H leader. Her life revolved around her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; she also enjoyed foreign exchange grandchildren, Miki of Japan, Anneke of Holland, A.J. of
Australia, Sam of Finland and Veronika of Germany.
In her later years, Maxine depended on her friends Effie Crawford and Mike Bolden to do the little extra things when her family was unavailable.
Preceding Maxine in death were her parents; husband Chig in 1965; brothers, Bernard, Roy and Howard Baker; and half-sisters, Maude Wilson and Mamie Holden.
She is survived by her children, Ron Woods and wife Patty of Osceola, Ann Burrell and husband Merrill of Osceola, Charles Woods of Woodburn; grandchildren, Ronda Roe (Mike) of Osceola, Becky Woods of Brownsville, TX, R.
