Willene Lavar Davis, daughter of Joe Chew and Ina Francis (Bagley) Chew, was born August 15, 1925 in Clarke County, Iowa and passed from this life June 20, 2012 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 86 years of age.


A lifelong resident of the Hopeville/Murray area, Willene graduated from Murray High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Glen Darwin Davis on May 23, 1943, and five children blessed this union. She was a farm wife and helped where needed, raising her children on the farm. After her children were raised, Willene received her Nurses Aide Training from Southwestern Community College in 1970 and worked at the Clarke County Hospital and the Clarke Medical Clinic for 16 years until her retirement in 1989.


Willene was a member of Hopeville Methodist Church, Hopeville Ladies Aide, Murray Athletic Boosters and the Murray Development Corporation. She enjoyed all sports and followed the coaches at High School, College and Professional levels as much as the teams. Her favorite team was the Chicago Cubs. She loved fishing. She also played a lot of cards with her family and never let them win on purpose. Willene loved to quilt and made sure that each of her grandchildren had a quilt at High School graduation. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.


Relatives who preceded Willene in death were her parents; husband; brother, Montelle (Mildred) Chew; and brother-in-law, Chet (LaVare) Davis.


She leaves her children to cherish her memory: Joe (Dixie) Davis of Norwalk, Jerry (Ingrid) Davis of Murray, Candace (Bob) Brown of Van Meter, Jack (Donna) Davis of Van Meter, Cindy (Gregg) Flaherty of Murray; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (Paul) Selsor of Osceola; other relatives and many friends.
